February News
February has some big events coming up. First and foremost, En Garde Fencing is holding its first in-club tournament! We are very excited about this event, and we hope that everyone can come. Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 28th. Details below.
En Garde Fencing In-Club Tournament!
This tournament will have three events, and be a fun En Garde community get-together. Bring the whole family and stay for the whole time! The first event check-in will start at 10:00AM, sharp. Please don't be late! We're going to run the youth (ages 7-12) foil event and the youth saber event at the same time. All youth fencers are welcome to fence in both the saber and foil events. The teen fencing tournament will begin about 2 hours later.
The object of this tournament is to not only bring our community together, but to give our fencers a chance to put all their hard work and training together and test their skills against one another. This will be a fun, supportive atmosphere where everyone learns how a tournament works in the sport of fencing. We will take the time to explain the rules and encourage students to ask questions so that everyone learns the ins and outs of competition, not just the students but the parents as well. And yes, there will be prizes for the top finishers! (No one will leave empty-handed.)
What to bring
- Yourself and your family. This is going to be a fun family event, and we'd like everyone to have a chance to get together and get to know each other.
- A little food and drink. Fencers need energy to compete! Also, we'd really like to make this a potluck as well, so if you'd like to volunteer to bring something to share, please email jim@egfencing.com or give him a call at 433-8102 to work out the details.
- Fencing gear, if you have some. Jim will bring enough fencing gear for everyone to use if you don't have any.
How long will this take?
Plan on staying at least 3 hours per event. We'll do our best to get through the event quickly and efficiently, but these things do take time. Volunteering will help make the event go faster, so if you'd like to help out, please let Jim know. Referees from the teen and adult fencers are especially welcome.
How much will this cost?
This tournament will cost $10 per event. If you enter two events, your total cost will be $20. This pays for the rental of the space and the prizes at the end of the event.
MDA Charity Event
I'm participating in a special fund-raising event to raise money for the Muscular Distrophy Association. In this special event, called the "MDA Lock-up", the organizers are going to come to a place of my choosing and "arrest" me. Then they will lock me up in "jail" at the Cantina restaurant in downtown Santa Rosa on Thursday the 26th in the morning. The money I raise will be used to "bail me out." Of course, my dear friends have promised to take many pictures of my arrest, and there will likely be pictures taken of me in jail as well. Don't worry, these photos will be posted online for your amusement! If you would like to donate money to my bail and more importantly, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, please visit my MDA website and click on the red button at the top that says "Click Here."
