En Garde Fencing Grand Opening and In-Club Tournament!
Saturday, June 6th: We are celebrating the opening of En Garde Fencing at our new location, and we'd like you to join us. Come for the food, fencing and good fun. The tournament will have three events, and is meant as a fun, easy way to learn how to participate in an important part of the sport of fencing. Plus, this will be a fun En Garde Fencing community get-together. Bring the whole family and stay all day! We're going to run the youth (ages 7-12) foil event and the youth saber event separately this time. All youth fencers are welcome to fence in both the saber and foil events. The following is our schedule for the day.
En Garde Fencing in-club tournament
- Youth Saber Check-in close: 10AM
- Youth Foil Check-in close: 12:30PM
- Teen Foil Check-in close: 3:00PM
- Yourself and your family. This is going to be a fun family event, and we'd like everyone to have a chance to get together and get to know each other.
- A little food and drink. Fencers need energy to compete! Also, we'd really like to make this a potluck as well, so if you'd like to volunteer to bring something to share, please email jim@egfencing.com or give him a call at 433-8102 to work out the details.
- Fencing gear, if you have some. Jim will have enough fencing gear for everyone to use if you don't have any.
- Senior D and Lower Women's Foil (SDLWF5) 11AM
- Senior All Women's Foil (SAWF5) 2:30PM
- Y14 D and Lower Boy's Foil (Y14DLBF5) 10AM
- Senior Unrated Men's Foil (SUNMF5) 12:30PM
The words "Check-in close" mean that you should arrive prior to that time in order to be in the tournament. We will open registration at 9:30AM that day.
The object of this tournament is to not only bring our community together, but to give our fencers a chance to put all their hard work and training to the test in competition with their peers. This will be a fun, supportive atmosphere where everyone learns how a tournament works in the sport of fencing. We will take the time to explain the rules and encourage students to ask questions so that everyone learns the ins and outs of competition, not just the students but the parents as well. And yes, there will be prizes for the top finishers! (No one will leave empty-handed.)
What to bring
How long will this take?
Plan on staying at least 3 hours per event. We'll do our best to get through the event quickly and efficiently, but these things do take time. Volunteering will help make the event go faster, so if you'd like to help out, please let Jim know. Referees from the teen and adult fencers are especially welcome, because that will make everything go more smoothly.
How much will this cost?
This tournament will cost $10 per event. If you enter two events, your total cost will be $20.
Tournaments Update
Congratulations to Emily DeOrnellas of En Garde Fencing for taking first place in the D and Lower Women's Foil event hosted at EGF on Saturday the 16th. Good job Emily, and great fencing!
Upcoming Tournaments
Offical USFA tournaments in the Bay Area are coordinated by the organization known as the "Baycup." En Garde Fencing encourages its fencers to progress to tournament level fencing. This month we are hosting an official Baycup tournament, and we encourage all qualified fencers to participate. If you want to know if you are qualified to fence in these events, feel free to ask Jim. More info on the events we are hosting, and those being held in the area can be found below.
We will also be holding periodic in-club tournaments just for our own members, so that beginners can practice their skills in a friendly environment, and families of club members can meet and get to know each other. Building a community is an important part of creating the En Garde Fencing team.
Below is a short list of upcoming tournaments. Now that we have a permanent space, we'll be having regular in-club tournaments too!
